Makerspaces Competition – Win a free 3D Printer!

Are you a makerspace, a Fablab or a Hackerspace?

We are offering free 1Sheeld boards to makerspaces with Arduino enthusiasts through our partnership program. So the board is available to your community members to prototype and build projects with it.

We are partnering with codebender, an online Arduino IDE, and the best way to write code for Arduino and share it with others. They offer a yearly subscription for private projects (worth $100) to every participating MakerSpace. We would also strongly encourage to host your 1Sheeld sketches on codebender, to make it easier to share with us and the rest of the world.

By getting a 1Sheeld board, you can win an Arduino Materia 101 3D Printer kit, all you need is to come up with an idea to hack your space! Whether making an automated door, or making your machines socially connected, the applications are endless with Arduino and 38 different shields in 1Sheeld.

If your idea is accepted, we will send you a free 1Sheeld, you can build your project and compete with other makerspaces around the world.

What is 1Sheeld?

1Sheeld turns your smart phone capabilities into a generic Arduino shield, you can sense the environment and grab the data with the sensor shields, trigger the Arduino and communicate remotely with it using the communication shields, use the smart phone touch screen and capabilities with Arduino with the special shields, and have fun on Facebook or twitter with the social media shields.

You can know more about 1Sheeld through this video, and the getting started video.

What can you do with 1Sheeld?

If you have the option to use GPS, Mic, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, pressure, light, temperature, proximity, and gravity sensors with Arduino what will you sense?

If you have video streaming ability through Skype shield, can make automated phone calls, send e-mails or SMS, and access the internet from Arduino, what will you do?

If you have Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare connected to your Arduino, how will you use them?

If you have voice recognition, text to speech, camera, music player, and clock shields, what will be your project?

Imagine you have access to all of the above with only 1Sheeld! Leverage the power of your smart phone and use the power of 1 line of code to build big things!

You can can know more about the 38 shields through shields page, and check previous projects through the community projects page.

The challenge is to create your project, and the judging committee will decide the winner based on the highest score.

Simply follow these steps:

1. Apply with your idea before April 10th through this link. (Update: Deadline extended to April 18th)

2. Our team will contact you within 48 hours if your idea is accepted or not.

3. If the idea is accepted, we will send you a free 1Sheeld board.

4. Build your project and upload it on Hackster.io/1Sheeld before May 15th.

5. We will screen the projects and the best project wins an Arduino Materia 101 3D Printer Kit! Announcement will be made on May 20th.

Judging Criteria

We’ll be judging the entries based on the following points:

  1. Creativity. (20 points)
  2. Quality of video. (15 points)
  3. Execution of the project. (10 points)
  4. Number of respects by hackers. (5 points)

Guidelines

– No limit on the team number, you can build this project along with your community members.

– Projects must use at least one of the following shields on 1Sheeld:

(Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Orientation, Mic, Pressure, Light, Temperature, GPS, Magnetometer, Gravity, Proximity, Buzzer, Gamepad, Keypad, Keyboard, Internet, Phone, SMS, Email, Skype, Notifications, Camera, Music player, Clock, LCD, Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, Voice recognition, Text to speech, Terminal, Data logger).

So, what are you waiting for, apply now!

If you have any question feel free to reach me at amr [at] integreight [dot] com.

Note: If there is a problem shipping the 3D Printer to your country, we will buy you a local 3D Printer at the same price point if you win :).
